Race Day

Check-In:

6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor Hotel OR 6:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. on race day.

6:00 - 8:30 a.m.
Participants will receive a race number, disposable "D" tag for official results and souvenir shirt. (Walkers may elect not to receive a "D" if they wish)

Stretch With Julie

Julie is back! She is a personal trainer who has offered to lead a morning stretch session with our participants again. This will occur from approximately 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. If you participated in the 2009 Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K, you were there to witness a marathon of people, all ages, stretching at the same time.

Security

All persons and items are subject to search and must go through a security check.

Traffic

We cannot stress enough to plan for traffic and to leave yourself PLENTY of time! There are only so many roads that lead into Weehawken.

Free Parking Options:

  • NJTRANSIT lot for early risers – 400 Boulevard East
  • 1200 Lincoln Harbor Boulevard parking lot
  • 300 Boulevard East

Spectator Parking:

Shuttle Bus Option

COACH USA will provide a free shuttle every 15 minutes from 41st Street (NYC) between 8th & 9th Avenues. (The bus stop is by a whale mural.)

From NYC side: - 6:00 a.m and every 15 minutes after until 8:00 a.m.
Return to NYC: - Starting at 9:30 a.m.

Participants making the return trip can pickup the bus on Boulevard East outside the NJTRANSIT bus lot. There will be a sign indicating COACH USA/ LTC participants returning to NYC Bus Stop.

Lodging:

Sheraton Lincoln Harbor Hotel in Weehawken has come onboard for the 2010 Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K. The hotel has reserved a block of discounted rooms for people interested in staying overnight before the race. A participant can call either call (201)617–5600 or (800)325–3535 and mention "Lincoln Tunnel Challenge Special Olympics". This rate is only good until March 26, 2010. Race Awards:

Fred Muser and John Scala Memorial Awards – presented to the overall male and female winners based on combined race results.

Top Three Males and Top Three Females - the following age categories will be award medals that state "2010 Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K" with the race date.

9 and under  40 - 49  75 - 80  
10 - 14  50 - 59  80 and over  
15 - 19  60 - 64    
20 - 29  65 - 69    
30 - 39  70 - 74    

Henry Barrios Memorial Award - presented to the top individual fundraiser. He or she will receive 2 box tickets to a New York Yankees game.

Team Awards

  • This is NOT a Grand Prix Team Competition (700 points).
  • Participants on a team can compete in either start time as results are combined.

Awards are presented based on top 3 finishers of your team. If a female does not make the top three, the third fastest male time will be dropped and replaced by the fastest female time and vice verse.

Post Race Activites:

All awards are given at the conclusion of the second race at approximately 10:45 a.m. Water*, sport drinks, fruit, yogurt and more will be provided to participants back at the registration area.

(*water will also be available BEFORE the race at the registration area)

Race Results:

We will have two areas set-up so people can view the results. It does take time to post them on the results boards as our timing company has to combine results from two races.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the tunnel clean for the event? Yes. Port Authority of NY/NJ closes the South Tube the night before the race. They continue throughout the night and throughout the race ventilating clean air in and out of the tunnel. Air is changed every 90 seconds. The road is degreased the night before the event. Vehicles are not permitted in the tunnel until the race concludes.

Is there access to New York City even though the race is going on? Yes. The center tube is open to vehicles going from New Jersey into New York City. The south tube will reopen at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Do I need a USATF number to participate? No. There are some participants that register their official times with USATF for Grand Prix competition points. If you would like to learn more about this, please visit www.usatfnj.org

Can I run in the first race and then do the second race too? No.

Can I make a donation to Special Olympics without participating in the Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K? Yes. See the sponsor page to donate online.

What happens if it rains? The Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K is a rain or shine event. If you do not participate, your money will not be refunded. It will be a donation to Special Olympics New Jersey.

Can I push a stroller when I run/walk through the tunnel? Yes. You must mention at check-in that you will be pushing a stroller. You will receive a tag to be place on your stroller so security can identify that you checked it in. All strollers and bags are subject to search by our security.

Can I wear in-line skates, heelie sneakers, ride a bike or skateboard? No.

Can I bring a pet into the tunnel? No.

Can I bring a camera or video camera in the tunnel when I participate? No. It is unlawful to take photographs in the Lincoln Tunnel for security purposes.

If I am on a team, am I still eligible for an individual award? Yes.

I registered for the 8:00AM start and need to change to the 8:45AM start. Or vice versa. How do I make this change to my registration? You can either email the change to or leave a message at (609)896-8000 x268.

Can a team captain pick up team’s racing bibs, shirts and incentive items for all members? Yes, we encourage it just make sure you inform all members of your team to avoid confusion on event day.

Can I pick up my incentive items after I am done competing? Yes, the designated incentive tent will remain open until awards are complete.

Is this a Grand Prix Team Competition? No, it is a Grand Prix 500 point event.

Where can I stand if I am a spectator? You can see the start and finish by lining up against the stone wall to the right of the runners/walkers lined up. This is to the right of the toll booths.
