Description: Alpine Skiing is one of the fastest, most exciting sports in Special Olympics. Competition is offered in three unique events.

Slalom:
Slalom courses have the most gates through which athletes must ski. Athletes who can make quick, tight turns do well in slalom competitions.

Giant Slalom: As its name implies, giant slalom is a longer course than slalom. There are fewer gates, which are set further apart, making giant slalom a combination of speed and turning skills.

Downhill: This is one of the most popular events in skiing. Downhill skiers love to ski fast. There are a few gates on downhill courses allowing greater speed for the skier.
Rules United States Skiing Association (USSA) and the Special Olympics Sports Rules govern this competition.
