At its annual Night of Champions, Special Olympics New Jersey honors and celebrates outstanding individuals and groups.
In the year leading up to the big event, award candidates are identified and nominated by their peers. These nominations are reviewed by a committee, and finally the award recipients are revealed. Awards categories include 13 outstanding county athletes, several volunteers, spirit awards, Special Olympics New Jersey Hall of Fame, Law Enforcement Torch Run Hall of Fame, and a Lifetime Achievement award.
The Outstanding Athlete award recognizes Special Olympics New Jersey athletes who have shown determination and dedication to training and an increased proficiency in any sport at any competition level. The award was presented by Mercer County Coordinator, Patrick Jackson.
“Benjamin has been involved with Special Olympics for over 20 years, logging over 80 competitions between alpine skiing, bowling, swimming, track & field, and more recently, powerlifting. To watch him compete is truly an experience as he is a natural at everything he does and has a great personality to match!
Greg works diligently to stay involved and participate, even after moving into his own apartment and balancing sports with his job at Wawa in Flemington. He takes great pride in his job, where he has worked for over 15 years. Greg is also active in the community, helping his church and attending various social activities.”
