Special Olympics New Jersey is dedicated to bringing pride into the lives of all involved. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide sports training and athletic competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, completely free of charge.
All programs are free to eligible athletes, including insurance, facilities, equipment, uniforms, housing and meals. In addition to programs offered on the local, county, sectional and state levels, Special Olympics New Jersey offers athletes free participation in all activities at our Sports Complex in Lawrenceville.
Everyday, we make a difference in the lives of our athletes, families and the communities in which they live. As a global movement, Special Olympics reaches 5.7 million Special Olympics athletes and Unified Sports teammates in 172 countries. See how Special Olympics New Jersey is making an impact on more than 25,000 athletes and their communities throughout the state.
Before 1968, the global movement known as Special Olympics was just an idea for one visionary woman, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Learn more about our history to see how that movement inspired the founder of Special Olympics New Jersey to bring this opportunity to the Garden State.
We are always looking to provide the best services and programs to our athletes, and we’ve got the team to do it!
Support from our partners helps secure the future of the high-quality programs we offer to athletes all over the state. From a partner like the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which has been a driving force for decades, to newer partners just getting their feet wet in the Special Olympics movement, it takes no time at all for them to see the impact they make everyday.
We are proud of how we govern the funds generously donated to Special Olympics New Jersey. In 2016, 85% of every dollar was spent to benefit athletes through activities and programs, well exceeding the industry standard of 70-75%.
