As a part of our commitment as a Healthy Community, we are always looking at ways to improve the overall well-being of our athletes even when they are not officially training and competing.

Nutrition Seminars

Through its partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, SONJ will host nutrition seminars and wellness programming for athletes, coaches and families. Check back for upcoming nutrition seminars when they become available.

Recipe of the Month

Check out the featured recipe for July, Tomato and Corn Bulgur Salad! Bulgur is a whole wheat grain, that is naturally high-fiber, low-fat, and low-calorie. The recipe makes 8 servings and sounds like it would be a healthy addition to any summer BBQ!

Unified Yoga

Athletes and Unified partners are encouraged to come to Unified Yoga classes held at the SONJ Sports Complex. Check the calendar for upcoming sessions. If you don’t have a yoga mat, don’t worry! SONJ will be able to provide you with a yoga mat to use during the class.

Walking Club

The Unified Walking Club program brings together people with and without intellectual disabilities and provides opportunities for physical fitness while inspiring friendship among participants! Each walking club meets once a week at a location within its own community and is led by a team leader.

Participation Perks

The team leader and Special Olympics New Jersey athletes over the age of 16 receive a Garmin Vivofit fitness band for free in order to keep track of steps and possibly earn incentives along the way!
