Types of Events
Athletes in Action
In addition to our large competitions like Winter and Summer Games, you can attend Special Olympics competitions and tournaments in places across the state. Find your local program to see upcoming sporting events in the area.
Fun Runs & Races
If you’re ready to get in on the competition—even just for fun—don’t miss our races throughout the year. You have a chance to experience iconic landmarks plus get a little adventurous with The Great Roller Coaster Race. And for law enforcement agencies, there’s a special opportunity to join the legacy of the Annual Torch Run. Mark your calendars and get registered:
- Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K – May 3, 2020
- Statue of Liberty 5K – July 4, 2020
- One More Tri – September 2020
Polar Bear Plunges
Be Bold. Get Cold. Our Thanks4Giving Plunge and Polar Bear Plunges at Wildwood and Seaside are wildly popular events that also bring in crucial funds for our athletes. Grab your friends, family and colleagues and register for one of our Polar Plunge events this year.
On the Field
From the putting green to MetLife Stadium, you can get out on the field with events like the Snow Bowl or our series of summer golf tournaments, including the Perlman Cup, Delta Dental Golf Classic, and Higgins Classic. Find this year’s golfing dates using the event calendar.
Why You Should Join Us
Have a great time and get involved in your local community! When you attend a Special Olympics event, you support athletes as well as our programs, which are offered free of charge to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
We wouldn’t be able to serve these families without event participants who help us raise awareness and funds, like the millions of dollars contributed through Polar Plunges and Law Enforcement Torch Run each year. Whether you’re on the sidelines, volunteering, or in the race, thank you for your support!
“SONJ is a wonderful organization! Many residents in our town love coming together each year in friendship and fun to support the Jingle All the Way 3k event. It’s a wonderful kickoff to the holiday season.”
—Wendy Coursolle Reiss
“We’re always very grateful to be asked to participate at such a special event where our officers are able to interact with the athletes, and are always humbled by the experience. We also proudly participate each year in the Torch Run, as well as the Polar Bear Plunge that takes place at the Jersey shore.”
