On September 30, a truly unique 5K was held at the Exit 15X Helix in Secaucus: the NJ Turnpike Five.
Over 400 registered runners and walkers competed in this inaugural event, conquering a thrilling out-and-back course starting at the Secaucus Junction train station, winding up the helix, heading toward the tollbooths, and looping back. The truly unforgettable route gave runners a chance to run where cars usually rule the road, and offered stunning views. On top of that: Every runner was guaranteed to achieve their personal best for this course!
Together with our event sponsor Wakefern / ShopRite, a total of $60,000 was raised, which goes towards supporting athletes as well as a variety of SONJ programs, which are offered free of charge to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special thanks to our top individual fundraiser, Mary O’Keefe, and our top team fundraiser, the Secaucus PD Run Club.
The fastest runner, Matt Van Der Beek, ran for team Pompton Lakes Unified, as part of the Cool Schools Challenge. This program allows Unified Schools to raise money for SONJ and for themselves, all in one go! Are you interested in participating in one of our fundraisers?
