At its annual Night of Champions, Special Olympics New Jersey honors and celebrates outstanding individuals and groups.
In the year leading up to the big event, award candidates are identified and nominated by their peers. These nominations are reviewed by a committee, and finally the award recipients are revealed. Awards categories include 13 outstanding county athletes, several volunteers, spirit awards, Special Olympics New Jersey Hall of Fame, Law Enforcement Torch Run Hall of Fame, and a Lifetime Achievement award.
The Outstanding Athlete award recognizes Special Olympics New Jersey athletes who have shown determination and dedication to training and an increased proficiency in any sport at any competition level. The award was presented by Camden, Gloucester, and Salem Counties Coordinator, Marianne Aponte.
“Billy Corsetti participates in basketball, floor hockey, and powerlifting, showing grit and determination in every sport he competes in. Never afraid of a challenge, he has embraced his new sport of powerlifting, learning quickly and working hard in the offseason to improve himself.
When he is not competing, Billy works in the cafeteria at West Deptford Middle School and volunteers with the Philadelphia Phillies. Be sure to catch his very own podcast ‘The Bubcast.’”
