At its annual Night of Champions, Special Olympics New Jersey honors and celebrates outstanding individuals and groups.
In the year leading up to the big event, award candidates are identified and nominated by their peers. These nominations are reviewed by a committee, and finally the award recipients are revealed. Awards categories include 13 outstanding county athletes, several volunteers, spirit awards, Special Olympics New Jersey Hall of Fame, Law Enforcement Torch Run Hall of Fame, and a Lifetime Achievement award.
The Spirit Award recognizes individuals who have advanced the mission of Special Olympics New Jersey through year-round support and innovation. The award was presented by longtime friend of the program and athletics sport director, Thomas Harrington.
“Since 2017, Marc Logue has been an invaluable part of our Summer Games, dedicating his time and expertise to ensure our track events run smoothly and efficiently.
Logue’s commitment goes beyond simply timing the events. He arrives on Friday afternoon to set up and is the last to leave the track on Sunday, providing his services free of charge. His dedication to improving the experience for our athletes is evident in his proactive approach. His interactions with our committee are always positive and collaborative.
One of Logue’s notable contributions is his scoreboard, which displays results as athletes cross the finish line. This year, he brought an even larger scoreboard and showcased video footage from last year’s events during breaks. His enhancements to the interface between his timing system and our games system significantly streamlined our preparation and the awards process.
A testament to Logue’s dedication occurred this year the Future Stars race during the track lunch break. A committee member casually mentioned the idea of displaying the race on the scoreboard next year. Within 15 minutes, Marc had the young athletes shown live on the scoreboard, demonstrating his responsiveness and commitment to enhancing the event experience.
Marc Logue embodies the spirit of the Special Olympics, consistently going above and beyond to support our athletes and improve our events.“
