New Jersey embraces the history of a backyard summer camp started by Eunice Kennedy Shriver by hosting our own version of Camp Shriver every summer. Camp Shriver is about fitness, wellness, sports, fun, and learning. This year we had camps over a 7-week timeframe at four different locations, and featured over 200 campers!
There was day and twilight camp at the SONJ Sports Complex, which included clinicians for various activities including golf, tennis, nutrition, soccer, fitness workouts, basketball, floor hockey, football, cornhole, pickleball, and bocce. Campers were led by former NY Giants players, Rutgers football team members, tennis instructors, RWJBH nutritionists, NJPGA golf instructor, and a player from the Sirens professional women’s ice hockey team.
The SONJ Sports Complex also had a week specifically for our young athletes (ages 2-7) focusing on balance and coordination on bikes, snag golf, tee-ball, basketball, and a field day.
We also offered a week at Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) which included numerous sports and RISN Center nutrition educators. The Ridgewood YMCA hosted for the first time and offered cardio rhythm, yoga, and concussion assessments.
The Field of Dreams complex in Toms River featured mini golf, basketball, tee-ball, cornhole, yoga, and soccer.
Thanks to all the volunteers, clinicians, special guests, and supporters who made this summer an amazing experience for the athletes! We can’t wait to see you next year!
