The 35th Annual Higgins Golf Classic, presented by Greenberg Traurig and Shawmut Design & Construction, took place on Monday, June 16, 2025. Despite a bit of rain at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, NJ, Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) hosted 200 golfers on the Meadow and River Courses and the day was a huge success!
On the courses, golfers were welcomed by SONJ athletes, Catherine Reischman, Lindsay Fulop, Dan Maloney & Johnny McCormack on contest holes. Many participants benefited by using the SONJ golfer drive as their first shot and enjoyed shooting the air cannon and rolling the dice for advantages on their drives. SONJ golfers Paul Butera and Ryan Musciotto played in foursomes in the field.
New this year was the very popular “Hit a Bottle, Win a Bottle” Putting contest. Participants left the green with a variety of libations leaving the committee wondering if we made the putt to easy!
Guests enjoyed a choice of gifts from Greatness Wins golf apparel, on-course tequila & vodka tastings, along with camaraderie with friends and colleagues. A silent online auction and raffle which included fabulous experiences, foursomes at top New Jersey golf courses, sports & entertainment tickets, including Lady Gaga tickets, helped raise additional funds for SONJ.
After a great day of golf, committee Chairman, Wayne Lawrence from Shawmut, addressed the group as emcee, followed by parents of two SONJ athletes, Belinda & David Hock who shared how SONJ has positively changed the lives of their sons. All Presenting, Tournament, Eagle and Birdie Sponsors were recognized with awards as well.
