Continuing the tradition of a memorable day of unity, fundraising, and community support, the 3rd Annual Walk SONJ event took place on May 17, 2025. 13 walks simultaneously engaged participants in unique and diverse locations, across the state of New Jersey, all with a shared goal of raising funds for Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) and its incredible athletes. The event reached new goals this year, raising an impressive total of almost a quarter million dollars, and counting: There is still time to raise additional funds or donate to a walk as the event will stay open until Monday, July 31, 2025. Reminder: Any individual raising over $500 by that date, will receive a limited edition Walk SONJ hooded sweatshirt.

Each county, or set of counties, organized its own walk. From idyllic parks to sunny boardwalks and even a lively mall, each location added its own flavor and excitement to the event. Participants embraced the opportunity to explore their communities while supporting a worthy cause. For those unable to join an organized walk, a virtual option was also available.

The overarching objective of the Walk SONJ event was to raise funds to support SONJ athletes. Every dollar contributed will go towards providing sports training, competition opportunities, health screenings, and leadership programs for SONJ athletes, totally free of charge.

With the funds raised at each of the individual Walk SONJ sites going supporting athletes in that county, this state-wide event had a definite local touch to it. The event’s success showcased the collective dedication of participants, who were united in the belief that everyone deserves equal access to sports and personal growth opportunities.
