“For every person involved in Special Olympics, the work of sport is noble work, grounded in our deepest human values, dedicated to our deepest human aspirations, and guided by the sure knowledge that the smile of one champion is the most precious gift the world can receive.” –Eunice Kennedy Shriver
The Athlete Legacy Fund was established to create long-term security for program-related activities, generating annual funding for the sustenance and expansion of existing programs, as well as the creation of new and innovative opportunities for the athletes of today and those in generations to come. The funds are managed and invested in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Special Olympics New Jersey Board of Directors. The primary financial objectives of the Fund are to provide a stream of relatively predictable, stable and constant earnings in support of annual budgetary needs, and to preserve and enhance the real (inflation-adjusted) purchasing power of the Fund.
In honor of those individuals, foundations and corporations who choose to invest in the future of the Special Olympics New Jersey Movement, the Athlete Legacy Recognition Wall has been established at the Special Olympics New Jersey Sports Complex. Donors are recognized with a plaque on the wall commensurate with the level of support:
- Founder’s Legacy Gift – $1,000,000
- Ambassador’s Legacy Gift – $500,000
- Gold Legacy Gift – $100,000
- Silver Legacy Gift – $50,000
- Bronze Legacy Gift – $25,000
- Friend of the Fund – $10,000/$5,000
Gifts to the Athlete Legacy Fund may be made in one lump sum, or over a period of up to five years. Donors may contribute to the general support of the organization, or choose to support an area of special interest such as the Young Athlete Program or a particular athletic event or sport.
