WHAT IS THE POLAR BEAR PLUNGE?The Polar Bear Plunge Wildwood is a partnership to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey under the Law Enforcement Torch Run program. Participants are asked to raise money to take a mid-winter Plunge into the frigid South Jersey waters of the Atlantic Ocean. All proceeds collected by Plungers benefit Special Olympics athletes and help further the Special Olympics New Jersey mission. Sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police, the Polar Bear Plunge Wildwood will benefit the more than 17,000 athletes of Special Olympics New Jersey allowing them opportunities to train and compete free-of-charge, year-round in 22 Olympic-type sports. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?Anyone with a little courage, a warm heart and desire to support Special Olympics athletes is welcome! Minors (under 18) are required to have a parent/guardian signature of consent to participate. It is advised that those with health concerns check with their doctors before Plunging.In past years, Plungers have included 6-year-olds to 70-somethings, mayors, police chiefs, officers, corporate teams, families, high school clubs, fraternities, and everyone in between. | THE MISSION OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS NEW JERSEY is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. |
