Even though it’s the off-season down the shore, Galloway Township was full of competition on January 3rd, 4th, and 5th!
More than 340 athletes took to the courts for the kickoff to 2020 Winter Games. For the past couple months, they have been practicing and competing in floor hockey and volleyball to make it to the culminating winter sports competition event.
The weekend began with Unified Game Day at Stockton University, where 30 students from Galloway Township Middle School and Atlantic County Special Services improved their hockey and volleyball skills with volunteers from the Stockton University Men’s Hockey and Women’s Volleyball teams. They participated in 3 sports stations – volleyball, floor hockey, and traditional hockey – where they learned new skills and made new friends.
The next two days were packed with action at both venues. 225 floor hockey athletes and 17 teams fought on the boards at Stockton University on both Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, 120 volleyball athletes and 13 teams spiked and dug for gold at Galloway Township Middle School throughout the weekend. Despite the chilly weather, it was a great turnout with smiles all around.
