The Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) winter sports season continued in northern New Jersey.  235 athletes took to the snow and ice on February 7-8 for the annual 2022 Winter Games. The weather cooperated for much of the 2-day event and kept the spirits high and competition fierce for the athletes, coaches, families, and volunteers in attendance.

Competition on the snow started up on Monday morning and finished into the afternoon on Tuesday. Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, NJ was home to alpine skiing and snowboarding, while the National Winter Activity Center (NWAC) in Vernon was host to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. For over 40 years, Mountain Creek has hosted the Winter Games for SONJ, while this was the third year NWAC has hosted cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

On February 18, speed skaters will take to the ice and show off their speed in Old Bridge Township, NJ.  On March 20, figure skaters will lace up their skates at Codey Arena in West Orange, NJ.
