The weather was a bit on the hot and humid side, but even more breathtaking are the views of this unique course: The Statue of Liberty up close! Over 450 participants didn’t want to miss the opportunity and boarded the 6:45am ferry at Liberty State Park for a beautiful ride to Liberty Island.

After a few short speeches and the Pledge of Allegiance, the participants were off! The 5K runners each completed seven loops around the Statue of Liberty, while the 3K walkers were done after four loops. Combined, all participants ran almost 3000 laps around the Statue of Liberty.

This distinctive event raises funds for Special Olympics New Jersey, who provide sport competition and health services to thousands of athletes around the state! A total of $62,500 was raised, and we thank the top fundraisers below:

Torrie Sakalsky – $3,206
Ulrike Klopfer – $1,053
Colleen Quinn – $878

Many thanks to Law Enforcement Torch Run for co-hosting; to The National Park Service for assistance and accommodations; and to Statue City Cruises for transportation to and from the island. Without their generous donations it would be impossible to have this event.
