On the first Monday and Tuesday of February 2025, nearly 300 athletes participated in the second part of 2025 Special Olympics New Jersey Winter Games. Gold medals were contested at three different locations: Mountain Creek hosted alpine skiing and snowboarding, National Winter Activities Center hosted snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, and Skylands Ice World hosted speed skating.
The Opening Ceremonies were held at Mountain Creek’s Red Tail Lodge and featured individual introductions of each athlete delegation, a procession down the hill with torches, a recitation of the athlete’s oath, and finally the lighting of the cauldron. A fine fireworks display topped off the official part, before the athletes returned into the lodge, where they danced to their heart’s content.
The spirited but fair competition was made possible, as always, by countless volunteers and supporters. We can’t wait to get back in the snow for the next Winter Games!
