31 teams made their way to Newark Liberty International Airport on October 5, 2024, all to support Special Olympics New Jersey athletes. Their goal: to pull an airplane 12 feet. And not just a small single prop airplane, but a proper jet – a United Airlines Boeing 737-900!
This event was last held 5 years ago, and everybody was excited to be back for 2024! The teams represented a wide variety of people: some comprised members of a specific gym or company, while others were made up by SONJ athletes and Unified partners.
Each team pulled the plane twice: first for the fastest pull, and then for the pull with the lowest combined weight. And the winners are:
Fastest Pull (there was a tie for 3rd Place)
1. Bulldogs
2. Medidata Solutions
3. Bergen’s Boldest Bergen County Sheriff’s Office AND CrossFit Barbending
Lowest Combined Weight
1. St. James Knights of Columbus
2. PMAC ATA
3. Johnson & Johnson
After their respective pulls, teams replenished their energy storage with fresh hot dogs that were generously donated for Airport Day by Marathon Foods. Some participants may have had more than one hot dog, but we won’t tell.
