On Monday, May 6, Forsgate Country Club in Monroe, NJ hosted the 22nd Annual Perlman Cup to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey athletes. Dedicated to the memory of Special Olympics New Jersey founder, Bessie Cutter Perlman, this all women’s golf tournament focused on celebrating female game-changers, trailblazers, and pioneers from all ages, fields, and abilities. It highlighted those women who have made progress throughout history – honoring the courageous steps the pioneers have taken to create a positive change for the future of women.
Participants arrived in the morning and indulged in a scrumptious brunch ranging from custom omelets, breakfast meats, baked salmon, delectable pastries, and more. There was a raffle and a silent auction enabling the golfers to win exclusive prizes such as custom-made gift baskets, family gameplay at Top Golf, official autographed LPGA merch, as well tickets to the 2019 Shoprite LPGA Classic.
Designed to accommodate both beginner and experienced golfers, registrants could either play in the 18-hole scramble tournament or the beginner’s golf clinic, where they received instruction from a New Jersey Professional Golf Association (NJPGA) Pro.
While on the green, women were encouraged to participate in fun contests where, yet again, they could win some amazing prizes, including a brand new BMW 330i thanks to Flemington BMW!
Following an afternoon full of golf and favorable weather, participants attended the awards dinner in the ballroom which featured the “Women Empowering the World’ video, as well as inspiring female speakers, SONJ athletes, and coaches. Bessie Perlman’s daughter, Ann Hansen, kicked off the night with an opening speech about her mother and the influential milestones she accomplished as a female game changer. The noteworthy messages shared by each presenter truly made the event a night to remember.
Special Olympics New Jersey would like to thank the following supporters:
