It was not just an ordinary fall day in October at the SONJ Sports Complex – on Thursday October 10, we held NFL Play 60 with the New York Giants. This event brought together athletes, coaches, and a legendary NFL quarterback for a day of fun-filled activities.

Since 2005, the New York Giants have been steadfast supporters of Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ). Through various events held throughout the year, such as the Snow Bowl in March and NFL Play 60, the Giants have wholeheartedly contributed to raising funds and awareness for our SONJ athletes.

At the event, several SONJ flag football athletes and students from local schools gathered and had the opportunity to participate in a series of throwing and passing drills led by none other than NFL legend and proud SONJ supporter, Eli Manning. The joy and enthusiasm brimming from the athletes was heartwarming as they engaged in the drills, soaking in the experience and expertise of Manning, all while creating long-lasting memories.

The impact of such initiatives goes beyond just a day of football and fun. The presence of the New York Giants and their support not only uplifts the spirits of the athletes but also reinforces the sense of acceptance and empowerment championed by the Special Olympics movement. Through these events, partnerships like this not only help our athletes participate in sports year-round but also shine a spotlight on the remarkable abilities and determination of our athletes.

Rider University is an Official Higher Education Partner of the New York Giants. The students who helped out were various D1, club, and intramural athletes and the collaboration offers them real world opportunities in the sports industry.
