On June 24, 2023, the inaugural Walk SONJ event took place, marking a memorable day of unity, fundraising, and community support. Across the state of New Jersey, 13 walks simultaneously engaged participants in unique and diverse locations, all with a shared goal of raising funds for Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) and its incredible athletes. The event was a resounding success, raising an impressive total of $80,000!

Walk SONJ brought together communities from various counties in New Jersey, with each area organizing its own walk. From sprawling parks to bustling boardwalks and even a lively mall, each location added its own flavor and excitement to the event. Participants embraced the opportunity to explore their communities while supporting a worthy cause. A virtual option was also available for anyone who chose their own path!

The overarching objective of the Walk SONJ event was to raise funds to support SONJ athletes. The event’s success showcased the collective dedication of participants, who were united in the belief that everyone deserves equal access to sports and personal growth opportunities.
